Five Tips For Writing Extraordinary Guitar Solos

  1. Hi Tony… I have a quick question. I have a Yamaha FGX800C Guitar. I recently change the strings to medium gauge 13 56. Everytime I place my finger on the first fret of the B string I get a buzzy sound. Could you please tell me what the issue might be and how to resolve the problem? Thank you.

  2. Thanks for the awesome tips Tony!

  3. I love that you guys do this stuff now! Reviews were always a blast. And now this is so much better! Keep up the good work!

  4. Great info Tony. I have a new Martin 00021 custom that I bought from My Favorite Guitar in Naples FL. There are no instructions about adjusting the truss rod in the Martin manual, except a recommendation to take it to a shop. I also am leaving for Alaska, so I need to figure out what tool I need to make the adjustment myself. Would the folks at Stew Mac know what tool I need to adjust a Martin? Also, I don't know if Taylor Guitar identifies the required tool. I bought a new 512 from Music Villa but don't have it yet, so I'll need to know what tool to use on that. On the Taylor, I'm going to ask Paul at MV.

  6. Thanks for posting this.

Sadly, maintaining a stable humidity is much harder than monitoring it. Mostly, keeping it in a conditioned space helps (don't store it in an unconditioned attic or garage, for example).

Transporting a guitar is also somewhat hazardous due to extreme temperatures and/or humidity it can be exposed to, which is why a good case is nice to have.
